He also served as the Dean (Students Welfare) at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal from 3 March 2008 to 30 September 2011.
He is married to Prof. Rajeshwari Lokesh, who is a history professor at Mangalore University. They also have a daughter named KL Bhavana, who is married to Yesh Jag.
Dr. K. N. Lokesh was a college-level cricketer. He is an ardent fan of batting legend Sunil Gavaskar so when KL Rahul was born, he named him Rahul thinking it was the name of Gavaskar’s son.
He was born on 12th May 1956 in Kannanur village located in Magadi taluka of Ramanagara district in Karnataka, India.
He did his M. Sc. in Geology from Bangalore University in 1979 and completed his M. Phil. in Hydrogeology from the same university in 1980.
