Lisa Marie Presley was an American singer and songwriter. She was the only child of King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley and his wife, actress Priscilla Presley.
Lisa was born on 1 February 1968 to Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. She was born exactly nine months after her parents’ wedding night (They got married on May 1, 1967). After her parents divorced when she was just 4 years old, she lived with her mother in Los Angeles, California but made frequent visits to Graceland.
Her father, Elvis Presley died on 16th August 1977 at the age of just 42 after suffering a heart attack. Lisa was at the estate in Memphis when her father died. After her father’s death, she became joint heir to his estate along with Elvis’s father Vernon Presley and Elvis’s grandmother Minnie Mae Presley.
She started taking drugs during her school days so her mother, Priscilla sent her to the Scientology Celebrity Center for drug rehabilitation and this is where she met her first husband, a struggling musician Danny Keough.
When she was just 20-year-old, she got married to Danny Keough on 3 October 1988. Their daughter, Danielle Riley Keough was born on 29 May 1989 and the son, Benjamin Storm Keough was born on 21 October 1992. The marriage lasted for six years and the couple got divorced on 6th May 1994. Lisa and Danny remained friends after the divorce and had even wrote some songs together. Danny served as best man at her wedding with Michael Lockwood in 2006.
She got married to Michael Jackson on 26th May 1994 in a private ceremony in Dominican Republic just three weeks after her divorce with Danny Keough was finalised. Lisa filed for a divorce just 7 months later and their divorce was finalised on 18 January 1996.
Lisa got engaged to Hawaiian-born singer John Oszajca on 23rd December 2000 but broke off the engagement after meeting actor Nicholas Cage at a party in 2001.
Lisa and Nicholas Cage got married on 10 August 2002 in an intimate oceanside ceremony on the huge island of Hawaii. Their relationship was on-again/off-again from the beginning and Nicholas Cage filed for divorce after 108 days of marriage and their divorce was finalised on 24th May 2004.
Presley got married for a fourth time to guitarist, music producer, director Michael Lockwood on 22 January 2006 in a traditional Japanese ceremony in Kyota, Japan. Lisa Marie gave birth to fraternal twin girls, Finley Aaron Love Lockwood and Harper Vivienne Ann Lockwood on 7 October 2008 via Cesarean. They got separated on 13 June 2016 and their divorce was finalised on 26 May 2021.
In a 2003 interview with Playboy, Lisa accused her mother’s ex-boyfriend and actor Michael Edwards of entering her room in an intoxicated state and being inappropriate with her when she was a teenager.
In 2004, Lisa sold 85% of her father’s estate, including trademark rights to Elvis’ name and image to businessman Robert F.X. Sillerman in a deal worth approximately $100 million but she retained the possession of her father’s home (i.e. Graceland).
Her son, Benjamin Storm Keough committed suicide by gunshot in Calabasas, California on 12th July 2020. He was just 27-year-old. Reportedly, Lisa’s song “Storm and Grace” was about Benjamin.
Her debut album ‘To Whom It May Concern’ was released on Capitol Records on 8th April 2003. The album contained 11 tracks and she wrote the lyrics of all the songs except ‘The Road Between’, which was co-written with Gus Black.
She released her second album ‘Now What’ on 5th April 2005.
In 2006, she appeared in the music video of ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’ song by Johnny Cash. The song won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video.
On the 30th anniversary of her father’s death in August 2007, she released a duet with his father’s single “In the Ghetto” which was originally released in 1969.
Her third album ‘Storm & Grace’ which was produced by Grammy-winner T-Bone Burnett was released on 15th May 2012.
She lost her virginity two weeks after her 15th birthday.
In 2018, she sued her former manager, Barry Siegel for mismanaging her finances and claimed that her $100 million trust had dwindled down to just $14,000 in cash by 2016. During her divorce proceedings in 2021 with musician Michael Lockwood, she claimed that she was $16 million in debt.
Lisa passed away at the age of 54 years on 12th January 2023 after suffering a cardiac arrest in Los Angeles, California.
